Cybercriminals in Australia are leveraging the government’s official ReportCyber platform to impersonate federal police officers and deceive victims into transferring cryptocurrency. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) warns that scammers use stolen personal data and fabricated case numbers to lend credibility to their schemes.

Detective Superintendent Marie Andersson notes the fraudsters exploit details from legitimate cybercrime reports to create urgency and manipulate victims. The AFP emphasizes that genuine officers never request access to crypto wallets or banking details, urging citizens to terminate suspicious calls immediately.
